Deficiency symptoms

Signs of calcium deficiency

Blossom end rot

In tomatoes and peppers, the classic sign is dark, sunken patches at the bottom of the fruit — a direct calcium transport failure.

Distorted new growth

Young leaves and growing tips become deformed, curled, or develop necrotic (dead) edges.

Weak cell walls

Tissue becomes soft and prone to collapse, making produce more susceptible to bruising and rot during storage.

Poor root tip development

Root tips, which rely heavily on calcium, can die back, limiting the root system's expansion.
